Goose Creek High School Announces Partnership With STEM Premier And ISPHI To Showcase School?s STEM Academy Students

Charleston, SC -- February 28, 2014 - STEM Premier, a Charleston based company focused on connecting STEM talent with higher education and industry, has partnered with Goose Creek High School to launch their new platform within the school's STEM Academy. The program is being co-sponsored by ISHPI Inc., a technology company specializing in information and Cyber Dominance and Engineering and Technical Services.

The goal of the launch -- the first of several planned in South Carolina -- is to allow STEM Academy students to showcase their talents in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM), receive comparative data in the form of student rankings and ratings and gain exposure to academic and career opportunities in the Lowcountry and beyond.

"Goose Creek High School is emerging as a leader in the development of STEM and CTE education," said STEM Premier Co-Founder Dr. Don Tylinski. "This partnership will give their STEM Academy students the ability to be recognized for their unique talents and expose them to the STEM-related opportunities both locally and nationally."

The program kicked off in late February with 9th-12th grade students creating individual profiles featuring achievements in STEM as well as standardized test scores, experience, videos, course work, earned certifications and more. Colleges and Corporations will have the ability to view student profiles, connect with STEM talent and share opportunities available within their organizations such as scholarships, internships and job openings. The hope is to keep students interested in STEM and attract others to the fields.

Goose Creek High School Principal Jimmy Huskey views the program as a step in the right direction for his school. "We have placed a major focus on our STEM and CTE curriculum and facilities to prepare our students for success in a world demanding those skills," Huskey says. Our partnership with STEM Premier and ISHPI will allow our students to build their personal brand, get their name out there and be recognized for those skills developed at GCHS."

ISHPI's involvement with the program indeed reflects the growing levels of commitment organizations are making towards helping our country create a sense of importance, development and retention of today's youth in STEM fields.

Over the past few months STEM Premier has been collaborating with local schools and businesses to encourage STEM in the region. In August, STEM Premier partnered with the EDGE Academies: career-themed schools within high schools in which the learning environment reflects the atmosphere and expectations of today's college and careers. The pilot program is an initiative of the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce. Goose Creek High School is one of five Tri-County area schools included in the pilot.

Other organizations such as the Charleston Digital Corridor, Charleston Regional Development Alliance and SCRA Technology Ventures' SC Launch are doing their part to grow Charleston's STEM footprint as well. In fact, STEM Premier's initial development was aided by SCRA, an applied R&D and technology-based economic development company designed to grow South Carolina's "Knowledge Economy."
